Metropolitan Opera Artwork

My post from September 29, 2009 showcased a piece of original artwork which Edward Gorey created for the Metropolitan Opera. In the posting, I stated that I knew the piece was used for promotional/gift items but was unsure of which items it adorned.

This past week, while perusing some completed eBay listings, I ran across a silk tie on which the Marguerite artwork appears, in company with a number of other images Mr. Gorey created for the Opera. I also found an image of the tie in red on another Gorey site. It is always fun to run across such an item...now I just need to find one of these ties to add to my collection/wardrobe!

Gashlycrumb Tinies Prints

2013 marks the 50th anniversary of Edward Gorey's delightfully doomed tots known as The Gashlycrumb Tinies. Originally published as part of the three volume set entitled The Vinegar Works, the Tinies hold a special place in the hearts of all Edward Gorey enthusiasts.

In tribute to their lasting appeal, Signals Catalog and the Edward Gorey Charitable Trust have issued a series of Gashlycrumb prints. The prints were created from the original artwork and are reproduced the same size as the drawings. Each letter is available separately, and each print is matted in an acid free matte.

There are 27 images are available - 26 letters of the alphabet and the cover art - so you can pick and choose your favorites, or collect them all!

Edward Gorey On Stage

Edward Gorey on Stage by Carol Verburg (Boom-Boom Books, 2012) is now available as a paperback book (see my post from July 29, 2012).

In response to comments and suggestions, Ms. Verburg was at first mystified as to how an interactive e-reader could be translated into a printed book format, but her inventive mind soon realized it could  be done! In the electronic format, there are links throughout the book that the reader can click on. These links take the reader directly to the websites and blogs being quoted in the text.

In the printed version, Ms. Verburg has come up with a unique way of recreating this experience. Throughout the volume, QR codes are placed near the appropriate text. By downloading an app to your smartphone, you can read the codes and be whisked away to view the expanded information.

I am thrilled that Edward Gorey on Stage is now available in book form.

Edward Gorey's Dracula

Edward Gorey collectors - Your help is needed! In anticipation of the 40th anniversary of the Nantucket production of Dracula, with sets and costumes by Edward Gorey, a revival of the original production is in the planning stages.

John Wulp, producer of the original pre-Broadway production, is looking for help in locating and obtaining copies of the original set & costume designs, which have been sold and now are in private collections. I have been able to provide images for several set pieces, but more is needed. If anyone has any original artwork from the Nantucket production's set or costume designs, please contact me at ampootozote@aol.com.
